When high school started, I took video production because it seemed fun, interesting and easy. I ended up falling in love with it so much that it was always my first choice in classes, and clearly it’s had a pretty big impact on my life. While most of the stuff I made in high school isn’t the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen, it’s special to me because it represents my beginning as a videographer. However, there are three videos that I will always be proud of and show off.
This was my final video in high school. I made it on my own in the span of about three months, interviewing students and collecting photos and videos from them to include in the project. It showed at my high school on the last day of classes, and was also chosen for a film festival in Portland called Best of PPS. Out of over one hundred films, mine was one of twelve selected for viewing and judging. Although I didn’t win in my category, the sniffles in the crowd after it was over was more than enough for me.
A short video I made also during my senior year of high school about the issue of gun violence in our country. This was a small project I made outside of school assignments, but I’m very proud of what I was able to do with finding media that I didn’t capture. This video and the one above also have a similar theme with the layout, one I liked then but don’t find myself doing much now. One of the most important things to me back then was making videos that really made people feel something after it was over. It’s something I notice isn’t as strong in my current work, but something I always want to work towards.
My first ad! Me and a friend made this for a different PPS competition that was put on by one school in the district. We did come in third out of three, but I will always stand firm on my two feet when I say the only reason we got third is because the other two groups were from the school and all of their friends were there. I love the cozy feeling of this video, and how comforting the store seems (the cute dog helps as well). Mostly, I’m very proud of how this video turned out for something I made three years into video production. When I look at the work I did for Farmers Union Coffee Roasters, I see a lot of similarities in how I want to make a business look to the public.
